Full & Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable replacement teeth custom designed to fit snugly and comfortably over your gums. They provide many of the same benefits as natural teeth and are commonly made of acrylic and metal.

Do You Struggle with Missing Teeth?

It’s challenging to feel confident about sharing a smile when you have missing teeth. You lose function, making it uncomfortable to chew and limiting your food choices. Some even find their speech affected as pronouncing certain words clearly can be difficult.

At Fontenot Family Dentistry, we know missing teeth impact your quality of life. You deserve a tooth replacement that looks natural and feels comfortable, and we can help you with high-quality dentures custom-crafted for your unique smile.

What Are the Different Types of Dentures?

We offer two types of removable dentures: full and partial.

Full dentures are replacement teeth that we recommend when all teeth are missing from your upper or lower arch. A full denture sits on the bony ridge of your jaw and stays in place with the help of natural suction and denture adhesive.

Partial dentures replace only a few teeth when you still have remaining natural teeth. We customize partial dentures with plastic or metal clasps that attach to adjacent teeth for support.

We carefully design your dentures to conform to your jaw shape for the ultimate comfort and stability. If you want a more stable tooth replacement that stays securely in place, we would be happy to talk to you about the benefits of implant dentures.

Your new dentures will restore your smile’s appearance, help support facial features, and allow you to chew comfortably and speak clearly.

What Are Dentures Made Of?

Our dentures are typically made of acrylic resin molded into shape and shaded to match the color of your gums and remaining teeth. The denture's base sits on the gums and is sometimes reinforced with metal for stability. Dentures may also consist of a metal framework for additional support.

Replacement teeth are made of acrylic or porcelain that are durable and closely resemble real teeth. After examining your smile, Dr. Fontenot or his associates will recommend the type of material that best suits your individual needs and preferences.

Benefits of Modern Dentures

One important benefit of dentures is that they are a cost-effective tooth replacement and work well for nearly everyone. Unlike dental implants that require months of healing, we can also deliver your final dentures in weeks instead of months.

If you don’t like the idea of fake-looking dentures, you don’t have to worry because dental materials have improved significantly! Today we design dentures that complement your facial features and look more like natural teeth than ever.

Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional removable dentures rest on top of your gums, while implant dentures are supported by implants placed in the jawbone. Implant dentures offer a more stable and secure fit and, unlike traditional dentures, restore full, comfortable chewing function.

Our dentist, Dr. Ian Fontenot, serves patients in Scott and Carencro, LA, and offers full implant services. While implant dentures are a great innovation and an excellent choice for many, there are some factors we must consider before recommending them.

  • Good oral health — Your teeth and gums must be healthy and disease-free before we can recommend implant placement. If you have gum disease or other oral health issues, Dr. Fontenot will recommend treating them before proceeding with implant dentures.
  • Jawbone density — Dental implants require a strong, healthy jawbone to provide proper support. If you have suffered bone loss in your jaw, you may need a bone graft before we can successfully place the implants.
  • Smoking — Smoking or using tobacco products inhibits your body’s ability to heal and reduces the success rate of dental implants.
  • Medications — Certain medications, such as those used to treat osteoporosis, can impact the long-term success of a dental implant. During your initial evaluation, Dr. Fontenot will review your medical history and medications to determine if implant dentures are appropriate.
